Dartmouth, Nova Scotia plays host to the 2009 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships.
August 12, 2009 (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) The stage has been set for the 2009 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships with thousands attending spectacular opening ceremonies set on the jewel of the City of Lakes, Lake Banook.
Festivities began with opening speakers Chris Keevil, Chair of Canoe ’09, representatives from the Mic Mac tribe, local paddling hero Steve Giles, and government representatives officially opening the Championships. Artist Holly Carr painted a wonderful massive mural live during the parade of local canoe clubs paddling during sunset, holding the representative country flags [see photo]. The night ended with live music and a spectacular fireworks display unlike any the region has ever seen.
