Each year, cardiovascular disease (CVD) causes the deaths of over 17 million people worldwide, which accounts for almost one-third of all lost lives annually. To help raise awareness of this global issue, especially around World Heart Day on Sept. 26, 2010, CanolaInfo has partnered with the World Heart Federation for a campaign about heart-smart eating and prevention of CVD.
For this cause, six culinary experts from Canada, the U.S., Mexico, Japan, China and India created a World Heart-Smart Recipe Collection as a “passport to nutrition” using traditional ethnic flavors and healthy ingredients. Recipe developers include Toronto’s Mairlyn Smith, cookbook author, and Carla Hall, finalist on Bravo’s “Top Chef” Season 5 of Washington, D.C.
