Hey There Fellow OptiMYzers! Since my last post, I haven’t lost weight or inches ~ but I’m ok with that because the main thing is I’m still sticking with it! I’m holding at 8lbs lost and as previously mentioned, I decided to tackle spinning! Not only did I decide to start spinning three to four times a week, I decided to do the 6am Spin classes at my local GoodLife Fitness club. 6am!! Yes, that means I have to get up when it is still dark outside and it means that I’m much more inclined to hit my snooze button a dozen times than to ‘hit the gym’.
That being said, I have a wonderful friend who is also joining me at this ungodly hour. I leave my house at 5:45am with no makeup, my hair in a ponytail and my eyes half shut. The cold March air is a nasty wake up call but at the same time it is the kick in the butt I need to remember why I am doing this. As I’m driving to the gym, frost still on my car windows, water bottle filled to the top, I’m telling myself it’s only fifty minutes and I’ll be back home before my husband and son are even awake. Once I’m in the parking lot, I text message my spinning partner to make sure I’m not doing this alone.
I’m surprised that there are at least fifteen to twenty other people in the gym and another eight to ten in the Spin class. Most of us still have our eyes half shut but we’re there and to me that is a small victory in itself. The first ten minutes of the class are the hardest and I’m wondering to myself, why did I think this was a good idea? Once I get through the warm up and I’m into intervals, racing, mountaing climbing and more, I feel pretty freakin’ good!
The fifty minutes flies by and before I know it the class is over! I did more than work up a sweat and my legs feel like jello but I honestly feel great! I’m even excited about my next 6am date with the bike.
I did spin three mornings last week and am aiming for the same this coming week, along with BodyPump classes (yes, at 6am) and Hot Yoga (not at 6am). I’ll add running back into my program once the weather is a little warmer.
This time next week, I will be sharing my experiences on Spin, BodyPump and Hot Yoga but for now, it’s off to get my required hours of sleep because before you know it, I’ll be waking up before the birds and on my way to spin my way one step closer to my yummy mommy status!
