Breaking the Beauty Taboo: How Nurse Harzin is Redefining Confidence in Women

An interview with Amy Goldberg

In a world where beauty standards are constantly evolving, Harzin Jaf, better known as Nurse Harzin, is on a mission to shift the narrative. As a dedicated healthcare professional and founder of Aura Cosmetic Clinic, she is helping others to feel empowered in their own skin. And for Nurse Harzin, enhancing one’s image isn’t about vanity, it’s about self-confidence, self-care, and breaking the stigma of judgement.

From her journey into nursing to becoming an advocate for informed, ethical beauty enhancements, she is challenging misconceptions and encouraging open conversations. In this interview, we explore her path, her passion for patient education, and how she’s helping women reclaim their confidence.

Having the opportunity to learn from Harzin was one where I came away with a refreshed perspective and better understanding of how we, in this case, women, can embrace with confidence who we are and how we want to be in the world from an expression of how we’re feeling from the inside out. What I realized is, we are quick to judge one’s appearance from face value. It’s deeper than that.

Hi, Harzin. What inspired you to become a nurse?

My passion for nursing, especially in the cosmetic field, is deeply rooted in my desire to help others experience not only physical rejuvenation but also a sense of confidence and well-being. After my own long personal journey of self-care, I felt called to help others experience transformation – one that goes beyond aesthetics. To provide care during times when individuals seek to restore a sense of confidence within themselves. As a cosmetic nurse injector, I have the honor of helping people reconnect with their true essence, empowering them to feel more comfortable and at peace in their own skin. It is a profound blessing to be a part of someone’s journey toward not just outward beauty, but a deeper sense of inner fulfillment and well-being.

There’s often a stigma around cosmetic enhancements. What are the biggest misconceptions you encounter, and how do you address them?

The biggest misconception is the judgment that these procedures are purely about vanity or superficiality. In reality, I treat so many incredible women from all walks of life—whether they’re working professionals, stay-at-home moms, or women who have overcome immense personal challenges. For many, these procedures aren’t about chasing perfection, but about reclaiming a sense of self-confidence and empowerment.

I see women who have been through health struggles, such as battling cancer, overcoming addiction, infertility, mental health or living with chronic physical ailments. These women may have lost parts of themselves along the way, whether it’s the confidence they once had or the sense of vitality that they feel they’ve lost. Cosmetic enhancements can offer them a way to feel like themselves again. It’s not about altering who they are; it’s about giving them the opportunity to feel better in their own skin, to regain a part of themselves that they might feel has been taken away by life’s challenges.

For many, these procedures are about self-care and self-love—taking care of themselves after giving so much to others, whether it’s their families, their jobs, or their personal battles. The idea that cosmetic enhancements are just about vanity simply doesn’t reflect the deeper, transformative effects they can have on a person’s sense of well-being. It’s not about trying to fit into some ideal; it’s about feeling good about who you are, inside and out.

What role do you think education plays in reducing the taboo around cosmetic enhancements?

As a cosmetic nurse, educating my clients is absolutely vital to reducing the stigma around cosmetic enhancements. One of the biggest challenges I face is helping first-time clients overcome their nervousness that they’ll end up looking ‘overdone’ or unnatural, often influenced by what they’ve seen on social media. It’s my job to guide them through the process with patience, ensuring they feel comfortable and fully informed every step of the way.

I believe in an approach that emphasizes enhancing the natural beauty they already have, rather than trying to drastically change their appearance. Cosmetic enhancements should be subtle and tailored to the individual’s unique features, always aiming to highlight what’s already there, not alter it. This is a conversation we have upfront: I reassure my clients that I’m not here to make them look like someone else, but to help them feel more confident and refreshed in their own skin.

Trusting your practitioner is one of the most important aspects of this journey. When someone comes to you, they’re often bringing their deepest vulnerabilities about their appearance. It’s our responsibility to create a safe space and establish an open and honest relationship where we work together as a team. This involves setting clear expectations from the start, so one understands what to expect, what’s achievable, and what’s not.

Education and communication are key. By offering transparency, answering questions, and taking the time to understand one’s goals, we can help them make informed decisions. This not only alleviates fear and uncertainty but also fosters a sense of trust and confidence, ultimately breaking down the misconceptions about cosmetic enhancements being all about vanity. It’s not just about the procedure—it’s about the positive, life-changing effect it can have on someone’s self-esteem and well-being.

Many people associate cosmetic treatments with superficiality. How do you redefine beauty in a way that promotes overall well-being?

To me, beauty is not just about how someone looks—it’s deeply connected to overall well-being. True beauty is a harmonious blend of mind, body, and spirit. I see my role as helping people feel their best, not just through physical enhancement but by fostering a deeper sense of confidence and inner peace. When someone feels good about themselves, it radiates through their energy, their interactions, and how they carry themselves in the world.

Cosmetic treatments, when approached with care and intention, are a tool to enhance that balance. They can help individuals feel more comfortable in their own skin, which, in turn, can positively impact their inner well-being. It’s not about chasing perfection or trying to meet unrealistic standards—it’s about helping people reconnect with their authentic beauty and feel confident, empowered, and rejuvenated.

How do you think confidence impacts women’s overall wellness, and what advice do you have for women who struggle with self-assurance?

Confidence is such a powerful force in a woman’s overall wellness. It’s not just about how we look on the outside, but how we feel on the inside. True beauty radiates from within—your kindness, strength, resilience, and the unique qualities that make you who you are. Those are the things that define you, and no one can ever take them away. When you nurture your inner beauty, it strengthens your overall sense of self, and that confidence impacts every area of your life.

My advice to women who struggle with self-assurance is simple: be kind to yourself. Beauty comes in many forms, and it starts with loving who you are at your core. Remember, you are worthy of care, attention, and love—especially from yourself.

And if there’s something, like a small cosmetic treatment or skincare regimen, that will help you feel more confident, do it for you. Not for anyone else. It’s not about vanity; it’s about taking time for yourself to feel refreshed and empowered. When you prioritize your well-being, through any form of self-care, you’re enhancing your overall quality of life.

How have you built and maintained your own confidence?

Building and maintaining confidence is an ongoing journey, and for me, it starts with being intentional about staying in tune with myself. I believe it’s crucial to check in regularly with my inner self to ensure I’m in balance before making any decision—whether personal or professional. Confidence truly begins from within. Staying grounded and self-aware allows me to make choices that align with my values and who I truly am.

Confidence is built on a healthy mindset, and I believe that when we are aligned with our true selves, we can make decisions that feel right for us—not because of what others think, but because of what we need to feel our best.

In my own life, maintaining confidence involves nourishing my body with good food, staying active, and being mindful of what I’m consuming around me—both physically and mentally. What we eat, how we move, and what we choose to listen to or see has a huge impact on our mindset. I also make sure to surround myself with a positive circle of people—friends, family, and mentors who uplift and keep me grounded.

By taking care of my body, mind, and spirit, and staying surrounded by positivity and faith, I can maintain a confidence that comes from a deep, genuine place. This allows me to show up as my best self—whether in my personal life or professionally, committed to helping others feel empowered and radiant from the inside out.

Harzin, thank you for sharing your story, and the work that you’re doing. I certainly came away from our conversation with a confidence in knowing that each of us chooses how we want to express our beauty, both inside and out.
