Isn’t it painful to see that one long nail rip off when all you wanted was to have perfect nails? Well, you don’t have to be a victim of weak, brittle nails anymore. Choose to up your game by eating these five healthy foods that aid in nail growth.

Salmon
This delicious seafood is not only rich in omega-3 fatty acids, but also in protein and biotin. Our nails are primarily made up of a tough protein called keratin, so it is important to consume foods that are rich in protein. Biotin is a vitamin that helps weak and brittle nails grow and stay strong.

Spinach
Spinach is packed with iron and plant-based protein. Many women across the globe suffer from iron deficiency or anemia, which can result in having concave-shaped weak nails. Iron is essential for the growth of healthy nails. Spinach also contains vitamin E, magnesium and calcium which further boosts nail growth. Add spinach to your diet by including them in your salads and smoothies.

Oysters
Oysters have 74g of zinc per serving. The mineral zinc not only helps the immune system fight invading bacteria, but it is also responsible for making those proteins found in your nail. A zinc deficiency can cause your nails to grow slowly.

Even though you may be taking the right vitamins needed for your nails, it is important for your body to absorb them. The healthy saturated fats in coconut oil aids in the absorption of various nutrients like proteins and vitamins A, D, E and K. They also strengthen your cuticles and your nails.

Almonds
A healthy dose of almonds is not only rich in vitamin E, biotin and plant-based protein, but they’re also crammed with magnesium.  The mineral magnesium is a stres reliever and is essential for maintaining healthy nail growth. Almonds are also a good source of calcium, which provides nutritional support for nails. To get your intake, eat raw almonds or even substitute peanut butter on bread with almond butter.
