Take a deep breath….
In April there was a big shift in the collective energy which everyone was subjected to.
We are now in Taurus season. It’s time to survey where we are, find firm ground, and prepare our next steps forward. The movement of the Sun, Venus, and Mercury into new signs mark a shift from the impulsive Aries energy to a more balanced approach.
The Sun is now firmly in Taurus, and the month once again begins with a Full Moon on May 1st in the sign of Scorpio. The Moon in the fixed water sign of Scorpio opposite the Sun in fixed earth Taurus. Fixed signs maintain stability throughout their season, allowing circumstances to progress fully before any transitions occur. Taurus is an earth sign; it allows us to reconnect to our bodies and to Mother Earth. Take in your surroundings as all the lush greenery is blooming. The planet Venus rules Taurus, so things have a softer edge than they did when the Sun was in the Mars ruled sign of Aries. Scorpio is a fixed water sign and represents our deepest feelings. It is often associated with our emotional past, and even the emotional traits which may have been handed down to us from past generations. The sun in Taurus is reminding us to stay in our body and to feel all the feels, so we don’t bypass the opportunity to see patterns that need to be resewn or mended.
The Taurus New Moon of May 16th is like a blank canvas, symbolizing fertile soil where we can plant the seeds of our intentions. In this quiet phase, the absence of light invites us to begin anew, making space for growth and transformation. A ritual for this New Moon is to physically plant seeds or flowers that mirror your personal goals or aspirations. As you place them into the soil, focus on what you wish to cultivate in your life. Tend to it throughout the month, observe its progress—each stage of growth is an opportunity to reflect on your own journey. By committing to this ritual, you engage in a tangible process of nurturing both the literal planting and your own personal growth.
On May 19, Venus travels from Gemini—where her energy was playful, communicative, and intellectually oriented—into the sign Cancer. In Cancer, Venus joins Jupiter, meaning both planets occupy this nurturing sign at the same time. Their combined presence amplifies Cancer’s themes of home, caretaking, and mothering, creating an atmosphere where compassion and emotional connection are emphasized. This alignment encourages us to broaden our understanding of family and deepen our empathy for those around us. It also prompts a check-in regarding how we safeguard our emotional core—which are our most private feelings and vulnerabilities. With Venus and Jupiter in Cancer, we’re prompted to nurture ourselves and others, set healthy boundaries, and rethink our concept of family. This shift invites us to reflect on our emotional needs and relationships, inspiring greater self-awareness, and intentional care.
When the Sun enters Gemini on May 20th this encourages open communication and adaptability, which can challenge rigid systems and empower community voices. Watch for others or yourself teetering into defensive behaviors. Ask if you are able to relax a bit and let go instead of engaging in a game of tug of war.
On the very last day of the month, we have the Full Moon in Sagittarius. You may see an opportunity to successfully take on new responsibilities yet be aware of too many voices vying for your attention.
A beautiful thought to take away for the month is from Walt Whitman who has his Sun in Gemini with Venus and Mercury in Taurus:
“We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. So, medicine, law, business, engineering… these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love… these are what we stay alive for.”
