Fresh off the heels of raising their millionth dollar for the war on cancer, Halifax based GIVETOLIVE (www.givetolive.ca) is announcing yet another epic charity cycle. Now in its 4th year, GIVETOLIVE’s “Cycle for Life – Celebrate Life” is recruiting cyclists to join a 2-week journey of a lifetime that will take them on a relay-style cycle from Vancouver, British Columbia to Austin, Texas. Departing October 11th 2010, this year’s 4,300km trek will pass through some of the most breathtaking scenery on the continent, including the mountains of Montana, Yellowstone National Park, The Grand Tetons, and the Colorado Rockies.
To participate, each rider must raise a minimum of $5,000, be capable of cycling 100kms per day, and get themselves and their bike to the starting point in Vancouver. As an incentive, the top fundraiser will be given the opportunity to meet and cycle with Lance Armstrong. All cyclists will participate in Armstrong’s LIVESTRONG Challenge, a 1-day cycle with over 3,000 participants from all over the world. Past participant Todd McDonald says, “You can’t pay for the type of emotion you will experience on a ride like this. It changes you in ways that are hard to describe. Everyone needs an adventure like this at least once in their lifetime.”
GIVETOLIVE will donate the funds raised in this year’s event to four organizations battling various forms of cancer: the Lance Armstrong Foundation, Ovarian Cancer Canada, Craig’s Cause for Pancreatic Cancer, and The Canadian Cancer Society.
GIVETOLIVE is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to ending unnecessary disease and illness by inspiring people to lead healthy and happy lives through exercise, altruism, and achieving the extraordinary. Join the ride or donate at www.givetolive.ca.
