I don’t know about you, but this winter has felt like it’s lasted a lifetime, and not in a cozy, hygge kind of way. More like a “how many times can I wear the same sweater before it becomes part of my identity” kind of way. At this point, I’m half tempted to have the BIGGEST BONFIRE and ceremonially release every piece of clothing I’ve worn on repeat for the last five months.
Tell me I’m not alone.
But maybe, just maybe, that feeling isn’t really about the clothes.
Maybe it’s about shedding.
Releasing.
Resetting.
Because April has a way of whispering (or shouting, depending on the day): it’s time.
And while I’m by no means a “fashionista” or wardrobe expert, I do know this, what we wear can either weigh us down… or wake us up. So instead of just revamping the closet, what if we looked at this as a little wardrobe therapy for the soul?
Who’s in?
With winter finally in the rearview mirror and longer, brighter days ahead, this is the season where energy shifts. You feel it in your body before you even name it. A little more motivation. A little more lightness. A desire to move, to change to… refresh.
Interestingly, that same energy is showing up everywhere, even in fashion.
With what’s being called “The Big Shuffle” in creative leadership, there’s a noticeable return to boldness. Think 80s-inspired maximalism, strong shoulders, expressive shapes, unapologetic colour. And while we may not all be reaching for metallic fabrics and chunky jewelry on a daily basis, there’s something to be said for what it represents:
Confidence. Expression. Taking up space again.
After months of layering, hiding, and staying in, that feels like more than a trend. It feels like a permission slip.
And let’s talk about colour for a second, because this is where it gets interesting.
The palettes showing up this season are anything but quiet. Garden Tomato Red. Cobalt Blue. Rebel Pink. Aperol Orange. Lime Chartreuse (yes, Kermit the Frog would approve). These aren’t just colours, they’re energy. They’re mood. They’re little jolts of aliveness we didn’t know we needed.
But if your nervous system is still gently emerging from winter mode (same), there’s also room for softness. Peach Blush. Sage Green. Baby Blue. Pale Banana Yellow. Cloud Dancer (aka white, for those of us who remember science class). These tones feel like exhale energy. Grounding. Calm. A slower kind of renewal.
And maybe that’s the real takeaway, this season isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about reconnecting with what feels right now.
Even the layers we reach for in early spring tell that story. The trench coat, the bomber, the perfectly worn-in blazer, they’re transitional pieces. Not quite winter, not fully summer. A reminder that we don’t have to rush the process. We can evolve gradually, comfortably, in our own timing.
(Also, a personal win; my “archival closet” full of blazers is finally having its moment. Hallelujah.)
As for pants, because yes, they are a major part of my identity, there’s a bit of everything happening. Low-rise, wide-leg, relaxed silhouettes alongside structured, high-rise denim. It’s almost like the fashion world is saying: pick your comfort, pick your confidence.
And honestly, at this stage of life, I’m choosing both.
(Don’t get me started on ribcage-high jeans, though. With my giraffe legs and short torso, it’s less “fashion forward” and more “walking lollipop.” We all have our limits.)
The same sense of freedom shows up in dresses this season, flowy, romantic, movement-driven pieces that feel less about how they look and more about how they move with you. There’s something undeniably uplifting about that. Light fabrics, soft structure, a little bit of play.
Because after months of heaviness, we’re craving ease.
We’re craving breath.
We’re craving feeling like ourselves again.
And maybe that’s where fashion, yes, even fashion, connects back to wellness.
It’s not about chasing trends or buying more things. It’s about asking:
Does this feel like me right now?
Does this support how I want to move through my day?
Does this lift my energy, even just a little?
Because sometimes renewal doesn’t start with a big life overhaul.
Sometimes it starts with opening the closet… and choosing differently.
Adding a pop of colour. Letting go of what feels tired. Trying something playful. Or simply wearing what already exists in a new way.
A small shift. A subtle reset.
A reminder that you’re allowed to evolve, season by season.
So yes, have fun with it. Be playful. Try something new. Or don’t.
Just don’t underestimate the quiet power of choosing you again.
Because that? That never goes out of style.
