When I was about eight, I loved riding my bicycle down our dead-end street. At the very end stood a big metal barrier, the point where cars had to stop. If I wanted to keep going, I had to hop off my bike and follow a path that disappeared into the wilderness. That feels a lot like where we are currently in astrological time. We’ve reached an end point, and the way forward is asking us to leave behind what feels familiar and step onto a new path.
Where in your life have you reached a point that calls for a different way forward?
Are you willing to follow a path without knowing what treasures or challenges it may hold?
Even if this new world has not yet fully taken shape, we are already creating it. The outer planets provide a steady hum, a cradle for the energy of transformation. As the personal planets, the Moon, Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars continue to connect with this cradle configuration, they guide us and gently nudge us more fully onto this new path.
As the month begins, Venus is in Libra before moving into the deep, still waters of Scorpio on September 10th. Mercury begins the month in Leo and enters Libra on the same day. Pay attention to the ground Venus and Mercury cover through Libra and Scorpio, because both planets will revisit these signs during their October retrogrades. Venus retrograde begins October 3rd while the Mercury retrograde begins October 24th
As Venus and Mercury move across similar territory at nearly the same time, themes involving deep relationships and important conversations may emerge and knit a story together. Notice what unfolds now, as these events and questions are likely to return during the retrograde cycle.
On September 22nd, the Sun enters Libra and takes its cues from Venus, Libra’s ruling planet. With Venus now in Scorpio, relationships call for greater honesty and emotional depth. Libra prefers harmony and a graceful approach to conflict, while Scorpio invites us to move beyond surface niceties, lower our masks, and explore what we truly feel.
On September 27th, Mars enters Leo. After two months in Cancer, Mars moves forward with renewed passion, confidence, and directness. Mars has a boldness here; we must remember to act from our hearts and not our egos.
Our first lunation this month is the Virgo New Moon on September 10th. This New Moon is an ideal time to set intentions around health routines and daily habits that support our mind, body, and spirit. Consider where you can gently edit your life, approaching the process with the meticulous yet loving eye of a wise grandmother.
What new agreements, commitments, or relationships are you ready to begin?
The Aries Full Moon happening on September 26th may reveal early progress from the September 10th New Moon, while also illuminating a larger cycle that began with the New Moon Solar Eclipse from March 29, 2025.
Eighteen months after that eclipse, this Full Moon may mark a turning point; a time when truths come to light, old patterns are released, or a much-needed realignment begins.
Each month will bring twists and turns that carry our lives forward. Our experiences shape the way we see the world, and the wisdom we gain can help create a better experience for everyone whose life we touch.
That may mean speaking our truth with love, finding new ways to move through our daily lives, or simply choosing to love ourselves a little more. We are doing the best we can with who we are and where we find ourselves in this moment. This month’s spirit is beautifully captured in an excerpt from Mary Oliver’s poem “Sometimes.” Oliver herself was a Virgo Sun.
“Instructions for living a life:
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.”
