Every day it seems like there’s more workout apps than ever! So we’ve picked some that are easy to get started with.
At the top end is of course, the Peleton, but you also need their gear. So for this article, we’re just looking at what we think are some of the best apps for your smartphone or tablet where you don’t need to buy some expensive equipment and you can just get started!
We think apps that include instructions are better and easier to use. Topping those are FitBit Coach, Kineticoach and Apple Fitness+. Most give you the option of a free trials, which can help you decide if you want to continue to a subscription. Some apps are free, but usually clogged with advertising, which can be quite annoying. It’s also good when the app logs your data, so you can monitor your progress. If you have an iPhone, try to use apps that integrate with Apple’s Health app, which is great for tracking even more data, including heart rate info. If you have an Apple Watch, even better. FitBit and their watches are good too.
Workout Apps for Women
This company has been around a while and has a solid track record for high quality smartwatches and fitness trackers. If you’ve got the tracker, why not add the FitBit Coach? It will track your daily activity and they have dynamic workouts.
They have hundreds of routines to try and variety is great! With the tracking, they’ll offer up routines to push you for a challenge as well. For women, they also have the ability to track menstrual health and they integrate that into your overall health tracking. The app will also connect with Apple Health if you have an iPhone. It’s why it’s the top of our list. A subscription will run you around $8/mo. or $40/year
Seven – The Quick App
What sets this app apart from others is that they focus on just seven minutes of exercise a day! So if you’re super busy between zoom calls and working at home distractions, this may be a great one to slip in a few moments of exercise. Some of the workouts are free too or you can join the 7 Club for around $10/mo., so not a bad deal and you can level up challenges.
They have some great 3D guides as well to help you along. If you’re new to fitness apps, this may be where you want to start as you build routine and comfort.
Like Seven, this is a little easier than some, but has some good features for getting started. It’s not a super-intensive workout app, but it’ll get you moving each day! They have well over 1,000 exercises, so a solid library. The app can even remind you if you’ve been sitting too long or for scheduling workouts. Prefer to focus on yoga for your exercise? Then Yoga Studio is for you! Created by Gaiam, this app has more than 70 yoga and meditation classes ranging from 10-60 minutes. You can filter based on time, focus and ability level, which is helpful depending on your day. You can also download the videos for later or maybe when you’re not in WiFi range.
This is a subscription model as well, but they have a 7 day free trial and then your looking at $10/mo or $70/year. It works on both Android and iOS.
Sworkit – Free
Wiat, what is Sworkit? It stands for Simply Work It. With that out of the way, this is a free app. You can select the kind of workout you feel like, such a yoga, core strength, piulates or cardio. For a free app, there’s good choice.
You can also save custom workouts for later and do some mix and match which is pretty cool. It makes for a great app to try if you’re new to workout apps.
There are lots of other apps out there, but we think these are tops or at least worth checking out if you’re just starting with workout apps or maybe a new one if you’ve been using them for a while. For the best integrations with you mobile, we recommend either a FitBit or Apple Watch. They work well with the various apps and if you have an iPhone, the Apple Health app is superb, plus Apple is very focused on privacy so your health data is much safer than on an Android device.
